Fruit flavours in beer can be as complex as those in wine...
Fruit flavours are found in many different styles of beer. Some of the most common flavours found are berries, citrus fruits, tropical flavours, and stone (or dried) fruits. The beauty of fruty flavours is that both traditional and contemporary methods can be used to add them to a beer. Malts, hops and yeasts can all give fruit characters as well as barrel-ageing, maturing on fruit or simply by adding juice.
The real joy from these flavours is experimenting with them in barrels, allowing slow maturation on fruit which releases flavour over time. Ageing in this way is a real gamble: too much fruit and it's overpowering, too little and - well, why bother?
