Wild Beer at Jessop House Closure

Stories

It is with much sadness that we must announce that Wild Beer at Jessop House in Cheltenham is closing its doors on Friday 8th March 2019.

As all businesses do from time to time, we have had a look at all parts of our business to make decisions about our future, what's working, what isn't...

We have made the very difficult decision to close Jessop House because of a number of factors, which to prevent further speculation we'll share with you here.
We are a small business and need to make the most of our resources, so question ourselves about how we do that; it is 2 hours away from the brewery which makes it tough. The huge increase in food and drink businesses in Cheltenham over the last 2 years, has definitely played a part, it is a very crowded market. I'm not sure there is enough 7-day-a-week trade to justify them all. Cheltenham is a very expensive town to operate in; our rent is high, our pavement license is high, our business rates are high.
Having said that, we have loved having a bar in Cheltenham, we love the town, it's why we came here in the first place - we wish we could have made it all stack up.
We have had the most incredible three and a half years, thanks to our beloved guests, our fantastic suppliers and sensational staff. However, for a multitude of reasons we believe as a business it is time to spread our wild wings and move on to new ventures.

Although this is a sad time for all of us here at Wild Beer and for everyone that has enjoyed JH and supported us over the years we hope that you’ll understand that our time in Cheltenham has come to an organic end.

We would like to thank everyone for their custom.

There are absolutely no plans to close any other parts of the business.

Yours sincerely
Andrew, Brett and The Wild Beer Team.
